On April 20, 2010, an offshore drilling rig owned by Transocean, a Houston corporation exploded killing 11 and injuring many more. The explosion occurred off the Gulf of Mexico approximately 50 miles from Louisiana. At the time of the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon rig, the rig was leased to British Petroleum, otherwise known as BP. The Deepwater Horizon rig is a semi-submersible rig and one of the largest deep water drilling rigs ever created measuring 396 Feet long and 256 feet wide. Many of those aboard the Deepwater Horizon rig sustained severe physical injuries, as well as, emotional injuries such as post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD.
