Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH), currently called Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH), is a serious illness involving extremely high blood pressure in the lung. It may begin with blood vessel problems that manifest themselves in feelings of weakness during exercise and physical activities. Eventually, the extreme pressure in the pulmonary arteries can lead to heart failure.

Medical professionals are still working on a cure for Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. Among the efforts used to combat it are lung transplants and medication to reduce the dangerously high blood pressure.

Studies have shown links between the development of PPH (PAH) and the use of certain prescription and over-the-counter medications, including:

  • Ephedra
  • PPA (phenylpropanolamine)
  • Weight Loss Medications (Fen-Phen)
  • Dietary Supplements (Herbalife, Dexatrim, etc.)
