We handle all Yaz/ Yasmin/ Ocella related illness, injury, and wrongful death cases on a contingency basis.

Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella are a new class of oral contraceptives (birth control pills) that contain estrogen and drospirenone, a "fourth generation" progestin. Yaz and Yasmin are manufactured by Bayer Healthcare, and the generic Ocella, is marketed by Barr Laboratories, Inc.

Because drospirenone may act as a diuretic, it can cause dehydration and increased levels of potassium in the blood. Increased levels of potassium have been linked to hyperkalemia (a sustained elevation in blood potassium) and heart rhythm disturbances. These conditions can lead to stroke, blood clot formation, heart attack, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism, and death. Additionally, sustained dehydration can cause kidney stones and even gallbladder disease.

Over the past four years more than 50 women using Yaz and Yasmin have died suddenly; some as young as 17 years of age. Their deaths have been attributed to cardiac arrhythmia, cardiac arrest, blood clots in the heart (intracardiac thrombus), blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism), and stroke in women under 50 years of age. Elevated potassium levels have typically been reported among the symptoms of the women who have died suddenly while using Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella.

Allegations currently exist that Bayer failed to adequately research their birth control products; fraudulently concealed the risk of potential injury to users; negligently failed to warn about the degree of risk women faced while taking these products; and misrepresented the safety of Yasmin and Yaz in comparison to other available oral contraceptives.
