Reglan (metoclopramide) is commonly prescribed for the treatment of numerous gastrointestinal disorders such as heartburn, acid reflux, diabetic gastroparesis, and chemotherapy related and post-operative nausea and vomiting.

Long-term use of Reglan has been linked to Tardive Dyskinesia, a serious involuntary and repetitive movement disorder that is often irreversible. A recent study cited by the FDA, reports the prevalence of Tardive Dyskinesia at 20% among patients treated with Reglan for at least 12 weeks. In February 2009, the FDA issued a Black Box warning against continued use of Reglan to treat gastrointestinal disorders.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with any of the following conditions after taking Reglan (metoclopramide) you may be entitled to compensation from the drug manufacturer:

  • Tardive Dyskinesia is a central nervous system disorder that is characterized by involuntary, repetitive movements of the extremities, lip smacking, grimacing, tongue protrusion, rapid eye movements or blinking, puckering and pursing of the lips, impaired movement of the fingers, shaking of hands or feet, abnormal head movements, uncontrolled bodily movements.
  • Cervical Dystonia is characterized by debilitating muscular spasms in the neck.
  • Parkinsonism- stiffness of musculature, cogwheel rigidity, tremors, and slowed bodily movements.
  • Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS) is perhaps the most serious of Reglan side-effects and is life threatening. The condition manifests with high fever, muscular rigidity, instability in the autonomic nervous system and can often be characterized by agitation or delirium.
  • Ocular Deviation (Irregular eye movements).
  • Akathisia (Motor Restlessness) is a persistent sensation of restlessness and inability to sit still, resulting in the need to be in continued motion.
