Steve graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia in 1976 with a BA in Political Science. He earned his law degree from the University of Houston Law School in 1980, graduating in the top 10% of his class and earning the American Jurisprudence Award in Evidence and Federal Procedure. Steve began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney for Harris County, Texas and served as a Chief Prosecutor of a Felony District Court. In 1984, Steve joined the litigation department of Fulbright & Jaworski, L.L.P and had the opportunity to try numerous personal injury lawsuits from the defense side. In 1988, Steve joined forces with Ed Blizzard to form Blizzard & McCarthy. Since then, Steve has established an expertise in trying complex personal injury lawsuits from the plaintiff's side. Steve and his wife Eleanor have two children, Catherine and John McCarthy. Steve's community service includes being the current President of the Houston Trial Lawyers Foundation and mentoring at JFK Elementary school for more than 15 years.
