Blizzard Law, PLLC is a personal injury and product liability law firm in Houston, Texas who assists clients who have suffered injuries when companies failed to warn consumers about specific risks their products present to the general public. There are different types of product liability claims that consumers can pursue. When a company fails to warn consumers about known risks a product could pose to the general public, or when a company fails to provide adequate instructions for use of a product, consumers may have the right to pursue a product liability claim against a company. Companies have an obligation to warn consumers about potential risks their products might pose to the general public.
Consumers have sued the makers of “Just For Men®” hair dye after they suffered injuries, including burnt skin, discoloration of their skin, and skin depigmentation after coming into contact with specific chemicals found in the hair dye known to cause allergic reactions in some individuals. According to the Journal of Asthma and Allergy, para-phenylenediamine or PPD is a commonly found ingredient in many black hair dyes. “Just For Men®” hair dye, which has been formulated for darker hair, may contain more PPD than other hair dyes, increasing the risk of allergic reactions. Some reports indicate that African American men who have used the product have experienced more serious allergic reactions.
In recent years, there have been more reports of allergic reactions to PPD. According to the Orlando Sentinel, one man is suing “Just For Men®” because he claims he suffered skin discoloration after dying his beard. The Orlando Sentinel reports that the ingredient in the hair dye can cause allergic reactions, burns, scarring, and skin discoloration. PPD can also cause more serious allergic reactions. According to Healthline, severe allergic reactions to the chemical can include swelling of the throat and tongue, difficulty breathing, fainting, nausea, or vomiting. In some extreme cases, individuals can go into anaphylactic shock, which can be a potentially deadly condition, which may require emergency care.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, “Just For Men®” hair products contain instructions suggesting that men test the product on a small patch of their arm before using the product on their faces or over wide areas of their bodies. However, some of the men who have used the product and suffered an allergic reaction as a result claim that the warnings are not sufficient. The skin on the face is far more sensitive than the skin on the arm, and consumers who are suing the hair dye company claim that more detailed warnings and instructions on how to perform a proper test of the product should be given to consumers. Other lawsuits note that the company’s instructions don’t include warnings about how the use of antihistamines, steroids, and cyclosporine could impact a user when performing a patch test on his or her arm.
If you or a loved one have suffered an allergic reaction after using “Just For Men®” hair dye, you may have the right to join a growing number of men seeking compensation for their injuries and pain and suffering damages.
