Anna Greenberg Featured in NBC News Story on Groundbreaking Texas Sexual Assault Consent Law
Blizzard Greenberg’s Anna Greenberg was featured in an NBC News national segment highlighting a new Texas law that redefines consent in sexual assault cases. The law, which closes longstanding loopholes in how consent is interpreted when alcohol or drugs are involved, is being hailed as a major victory for survivors.
The story follows survivor and activist Summer Willis, whose powerful advocacy helped push the legislation across the finish line. She sheds light on how outdated legal definitions once made it nearly impossible for certain sexual assault victims to seek justice, particularly those who were voluntarily intoxicated.
“I think it’s really important to kind of close that loop for a lot of women who have been sexually assaulted but feel like it’s their fault because they voluntarily consumed alcohol or another substance,” Ms. Greenberg said in the report.
The new law expands the definition of sexual assault to include instances where the perpetrator knows the victim is impaired and unable to consent, an important step toward ensuring survivors are believed and supported, regardless of the circumstances.
