Anna Greenberg Featured in CBS News Texas Report on Prosper ISD Sexual Assault Case
CBS News Texas interviewed Blizzard Greenberg partner Anna Greenberg on a case involving a North Texas high school softball coach’s failure to report an alleged sexual assault.
Prosper High School head softball coach Renna Bersosa and assistant coach Kasie Ostrom were arrested for reportedly ignoring a student’s third-party allegations of sexual assault against teammates because the assailant was a promising player.
Bersosa allegedly instructed the student to “handle the matter directly with” the accused by warning her that if the assaults didn’t stop, she would divulge the incidents to their coach.
Civil trial lawyer Ms. Greenberg says the coach placed the burden of stopping these assaults on the shoulders of another child and tried to evade the responsibility of reporting abuse.
“Any report of child abuse has to be reported and it’s not up to the teachers to assess the credibility of the report,” Ms. Greenberg told CBS News. “Adults need to be aware of the reporting obligations and to make sure that they speak up and don’t try to bury this information.”
Texas law requires that anyone suspecting child abuse or neglect must immediately report it to the authorities. The requirement is even more stringent for educators and individuals in similar roles, who are given just 48 hours to make such a report.
